One thing that I've learned in the few years of experience that I've had in Martial arts is that the simplest moves are the hardest ones to accomplish. I don't know whether or not it's the difficulty to accomplish them - maybe most inexperienced people dismiss basic techniques as those that aren't very important - or can't hurt as much. More often people appreciate the more difficult techniques, kicks or spinning type strikes, because they look pretty, keep the opponent at bay, and they think that that is the basis of their martial art. I've been hit by a black belt, the black belt learns X/Y/Z, therefore those more advanced things are what I need to get ahead. Maybe. Once I get through with the kata I'll let you know. It may take a few more years though. Colin
