I am the moderator of this forum, and am writing a manuscript called "Fighting Heaven and Earth" which looks at the bunkai or interpretation of kata as a method to logically link the entire process of strategic planning and tactical execution in the martial arts.
Since starting martial arts about twenty years ago, I have two black belts: a first degree from a MMA in SEA called Ninjado, and a fourth degree in Taekwondo. I've also got extensive high level sporting experience in Archery, where I was a national representative and a long time coach.
My professional career is as a business executive for high tech and e-commerce projects. I have just completed a Master's in Business and Technology
I am based in Perth, Western Australia with a loving wife, a wonderful 4yo boy, and a little gorgeous 14mo girl.
It is my hope to share whatever knowledge I have with any martial artist, in exchange for your knowledge, experience, opinions, and patience. To do this, I have set up this forum to help us talk about topics of relevance. However, while the forum is publically readable, you'll have to contact me for write privileges. I don't want any web warriors on board.
Thank you for visiting!

Hello everybody
My name's Bill, and I'm going to be grading with Colin early next year. I've trained in a fairly wide variety of martial arts, with most of my experience being in karate (at the moment anyway).
I live in Victoria, and since I've just finished university, anything is possible as to where I may end up living and working soon!
Looking forward to many interesting threads,
Bill

My name is Tim White. I am th Director of the MLCA Association and the MLCA Honor Society. It is an honour for us to have you here Si Tai Gung. For those of you who don't know, Sifu White 8th dan is the director of the molum combat arts association of which we are affiliated to. I have also listed him in our online family tree as an 'Affiliate Coach,' a job which while he didn't know he was doing, has been done very well by him for the last year or so since we've starting communicating. My name's Bill, and I'm going to be grading with Colin early next year. Bill - good to see you here. This forum is an opportunity for those invited to chat about the core of our training. While we do sometimes divert our attention, this core is formed by a set of patterns called Chang Hon (and some of its precursors). Such discussion should help all of us understand the direction we're taking and give us the liberty to discuss what exactly we are doing, or at least what's on our minds. The forum isn't about what specifically is on MY mind, and I'm glad that you and Tim have taken the liberty of adding your own issues on board. Perhaps you may like to consider using this mechanism for your own students? Let me know if you'd like me to specify which are 'HRGB' focused. Colin

Hello, and a respectful bow to all of you my fellow martial artists, and friends.
My name is Mireille Clark. I am firstly a 41 year old mother of 7 children, one of whom is autistic, and homeschooling.
Then I am a wonderful spiritual supportive loving wife to my dear husband.
Also, I am a cross-training martial artist. I train in Shotokan karate ( Going for my Shodan test in just a few weeks ), and I also train in Kyokushin Karate ( 7th kyu Blue belt/yellow stripe)
I have had the joy of meeting Renshi Colin on another forum, and have been the lucky recipient of his wisdom, and friendship. It is a wonderful gift to be able to participate on Hikaru dojo's forum.

I have had the joy of meeting Renshi Colin on another forum, and have been the lucky recipient of his wisdom, and friendship. It is a wonderful gift to be able to participate on Hikaru dojo's forum. It is I who have been lucky. FYI, Mir helped me immensely when I needed editing help on my manuscript. When even ex-publishing colleagues didn't want to lend a hand, Mir went through my work and provided objective criticism and feedback. This was priceless. It's quite amazing just to look at the list of members on this forum - Tim White in the States, Mir Clark in Canada, Bill in Victoria, and Kent returing to Singapore. Welcome to all of you again! Colin

It seems that some of the boards are taking a life of their own. If anyone wants to take ownership of the board that discusses non-TKD patterns, let me know. I'll be happy to recategorise it, or break it up in sub-categories. Colin

You so generously invited me into your own organisation. This is a small recognition of your contribution to our group. For those of you who don't know what Tim is talking about, see: www.hikarudojo.com/martialart.html

Oh gosh! Now that warms the heart! That is what the whole idea of "respect others" would mean to me in the realm of martial arts: To accept each other's skills, knowledge, and strengths, and to support, and be grateful for each other.
Renshi Colin, and Sifu White you are an example of what should be happening in a martial arts world that is filled with negative politics that break organizations apart.

Hi All,
My name is Tim Schutte, and I was invited to join your forum by my friend Mireille Clark, who asked for help on modifying forms for persons in wheelchairs on another forum, the CyberDojo.
I am 56 years old, a paraplegic as the result of spina bifida, and I have practiced and taught Isshinryu Karate for 38 years. My teachers have included Doug Noxon 4-dan (deceased), Norbert B. Donnelly 8-dan, Samuel G. Santilli 8-dan and Willie Adams 9-dan. I tested for 5-dan in September.
I am looking forward to chatting with the group.
Thanks, Tim

Tim S.
Thanks for joining the forum. We welcome you here. I am looking forward to chatting with you on the idea of converting forms for the handicap. Especially those confined to a wheelchair and who are interested in learning. Especially kids and young adults.
