On Pyung Ahn and Chang Hon
Double blocks look like the ones we have late in Hwa-rang (we only do them on one side though). The double block and spearhand seem to be similar in spirit to the Yul-guk form we have. I like the footstomp forearm strike. The footstomps seems to be taken from Bassai. THe elbow block is similar to what we have for Toi-gye (with some variation) - one of my favourite techniques. I also like it that it finishes off with two really powerful frontal elbow strikes. We get a similar move, but done in forebalance in Yul-guk.

Comparison of Pyung-Ahn Sam dan to Heian Sandan There is FAR more bending of the torso in “P” than in “H”. From the very first movements to the last movements you see the performer moving his upper body leaning it towards the opponent as he strikes, or bending it sideways with the elbow blocks. In "H" you will see the martial artists keeping the torso as still as possible. 1. Movement # 2, and 3 In “P” they appear to be more unto backfists to the head with the power of the technique heading outwards.. almost directly to the face, and groin. In “H” you will see that the power of those movements is to the side in a circular deflective manner. 2. Movement #11. In “P” the performer’s arms go up above his head, and comes down towards the hips, but in “H” you will see the arms slide up the sides of the legs, and then place themselves on the hips. This is a major difference due to the application united with the movement. 3. The last movements. In “P” there is a jump from one defense to the other.. However in “H” you wil see just a sudden shift to the right.. the feet do not leave the floor. I couldn't "catch" the other differences as easilly as in the first kata Pyung Ahn Cho Dan. Perhaps there are less differences.. I can be hopeful.. Pyung-ahn Sam dan According to the performance by Master D. McHenry. found at: www.natkd.com/tkd_forms.htm I found this example of a Shotokan JKA Heian Sandan video www.aokdojo.com/Video%20Clips/Heian%20Sandan%20Video%20Clip.mpeg
