Many people do Kata and form with various visions. What physcial part of the kata/form do you like bests, regardless of system or style.

I would have to say foot work.
I won't say kicks, because I use them sparingly. Hand techniques are good, but I think they tend to be secondary to footwork in importance. I won't say stances, because they can vary in usefulness, but it is kind of incorporated in footwork in the aspects I like about them.

In the kata system that we have everything that is communicated is done using combinations of hand techniques, stances, and to a much lesser extent, kicks. Hand techniques teach principles such as coverage, sensitive strike areas on your body, target areas, feints, controls, releases, locks and breaks, and tactical approaches. Using such understanding endows drills with the 'meaning' that we all strive for.

There is no "part" of kata that I like best.. it's all one package to me. I love the feeling of my weight shifting from stance to stance. I love the quickness/slowness, contraction/expansion of the various arm, and leg movements. I love the sensation of balance, and spinning/jumping with intent. I love the rhythm of breathing accenting, prolonging, or strengthening the techniques.
I guess if I had to pick ONE point of kata over everything else.. it would have to be the KIAI points. Those moments of total focus, with that pause of power before you explode into the next movements.

Colin, I can access the Iaomas Board on my own, but I cannot find the poll that you have linked to.
When I try to click the link that you have provided.. I am told that I'm trying to access something that I cannot.
It is probably because I'm just a student non-Iaomas member..I have limited access.
Therefore, could you explain what is important about that link for me?

It is because the entire link is a run on line. The info spills onto the next line. The forum however, just thinks that the first line is the part of the link, not the second. So you've got to copy the first line, and also past the second line in after that. Colin

I found out that I like to visualize the movements in the forms. Those that give power, grace, and ease of movement. There are Chinese Forms that look like Karate Forms and visa versa. So, I think if you can visualize what is going on in the form that you can bring that form to life.
