How in heaven's name did I miss this whole thread for so long? Wow! Sifu White, I thoroughly enjoyed all of the various clips that you have posted here. When I saw that first exercise that you were demonstrating for the seminar about knife defense, my kata recognition sights clicked in. Holy cow! I saw the opening move of Heian Yondan ( Pinan sono yon) displayed in actual speed, and movement. I swear it. Did anyone else see the instant resemblance? The two hands coming up to the left side, and then pushing down and to the side? As I look more closely at the moves of that 4th kata, they look like they could be applied as knife defense. Is this my imagination running wild?

The Ginger fist form reminded me (in some parts) of the Shotokan kata Gankaku, and yet.. There was so much to it that reminded me of the Goju Ryu style of kata especially the side to side fighting sequences. i.e.: sending a combination of techniques to the left, and then turning and doing similar to the right. and the both directions sequences i.e.: doing similtaneous attacks with both the right and left arms to the sides.

I'm glad that it wasn't just my imagination. When I said "advanced shotokan forms", I was thinking of the Goju style forms that are taught in Kanazawa Hirokazu's style of Shotokan. That's surreal, Mir...
